Community
outreach is a vital part of discipleship. Rather
than staging large, one time events, the Ablaze
Revolution encourages community outreach in
three distinct ways. First, Ablaze
Disciples are encouraged to rise up as servants
within their own communities to be Christ-like
models of His love. Jesus said, “the
Son of Man did not come to be served, but to
serve.” Individuals set ablaze to
share God’s love with others through
volunteering at shelters, inspiring children
in career days, helping the elderly or others
in need, and many more things combine to form
an army for Christ sharing His love in numerous
directions. Secondly, Ablaze Disciples
are encouraged to get the name of Jesus Christ
out into the community in creatively appropriate
ways. For example, the Ablaze Revolution
crew has developed everything from AblazeU
Spirit T-shirts to Ignite & Invite
cards so people can invite their friends and
co-workers to connect simply by handing them
a card. The crew has also placed a large sign
on a major thoroughfare in the Fort Worth area
inviting people to the local Ablaze Revolution
gatherings and directing them to the website.
We’ve even placed an onscreen add at
a local Movie Tavern inviting people to “Set
Ablaze Your Spiritual Journey! AblazeRevolution.com.” Some
may wonder whether reaching out to folks at
a movie tavern is something we need to be doing.
We would simply respond by saying if our purpose
is truly our Lord’s purpose, to reach
those who may not yet know Jesus Christ, then
these are precisely the types of things we
need to be doing with a smile and without apology!
Finally, Ablaze Disciples are encouraged
to give financially in the name of Christ to
those who are in need, over and above what
they give to their local church. In
His Word, God often reminds us of the importance
of helping those in need, not only in words
and action, but also with our wallets. In 2005, Lutheran
Social Services of the South recognized
The Ablaze Revolution as a Bronze Sponsor for
the financial support given to help aid the
incredible work done by LSSS with
the many underprivileged children served through
the Nelson Center in Denton, TX (i.e. a portion
of the profits from the Ablaze
U Spirit T-Shirt sales goes to
support this wonderful faith-based ministry).
There are people throughout the world, both
young and old, who need to be reached with
the love of Jesus Christ through acts of service
and kindness. This is our calling, and perhaps
there is none more rewarding than this.
