  • 44% of Americans polled believe that “the Bible, the Koran, and the Book of Mormon are all different expressions of the same spiritual truths” (Barna, 10.8.2002, Americans Draw Theological Beliefs from Diverse Points of View).

  • 67% of Americans polled believe that society is too tolerant of harmful behavior while 24% believe our society is too intolerant of behavior that’s not harmful (Source: Peter D. Hart Research Associates, 3.16-20, 1999).

  • When asked, “Which should be a more important goal for our society these days: promoting greater respect for traditional social and moral values, or encouraging greater tolerance of people with different lifestyles and backgrounds?" 60% of Americans polled believed promoting respect for traditional values, 29% believed promoting greater tolerance, and 10% believed both equally (NBC News/Wall Street Journal Poll, 6.16-19.1999).

  • Intolerant Methodology? In one Australia Institute study, the criteria used to label someone as intolerant, anti-gay, and homophobic was simply acknowledging a belief that they considered homosexuality to be immoral (Catholic News, 7.25.2005, Study says Catholics lead in tolerance of gays).
